I hate to disagree with the other reviews, but I did not like "The Crystal Heart". I found it to be a great example of how drastically a book can go from "great" to "I guess I'll finish it". The traditional novella starts out being well-written, with a fairly original plotline and even a bit of witty dialogue. But the hero's transformation seems to be more told to the reader, rather than shown through his interactions - in fact, his interactions showed him to still be a bit of a flirt. Same with the character's "love" for each other. And then the drama/angst is basically forced at the reader for the last 30% of the book or so. I don't see how the other readers though it was a happy story. I love sappy and lighthearted books if done correctly, but in this case I just didn't feel it.
Good reading
I have R.A. and began a few yrs back reading extensively to cope w/difficult days. There's just nothing like a great or even good book to take you away on adventures or make u smile. I don't read many short stories because they usually lack the depth to keep me engaged. I usually feel cheated at the end. This book is as far away from that kind of short story as it's possible to be. It was so well written and the characters so developed I had that same happy/satisfied feeling at the end, it might as well have been 300+ pages. It is definitely worth the time and money to read!
